Bavarian Forest:

1. Great Arber and Great Arber Lake
"King of the Bavarian Forest": The Great Arber is 1.456 meters high and therefor the highest mountain of the Bavarian-Bohemian mountains.

Monastery corner Aldersbach / Ortenburg

The picturesque landscape between Danube and Rott is well known for its monasteries and sacred buildings as well as for its treasures of art. Visit the most beautiful Church of our Lady and the 700 year old brewery including a museum in Aldersbach or the historical market in Aidenbach. If you want to have some peace and quiet you will find on the “VIA NOVA”, a pilgrimage route that leads through the Monastery Corner or in the magnificent pilgrimage churches Sammarei and Grongörgen. Ortenburg, which used to be the ancestral seat of the mighty earls of Ortenburg offers a huge variety of activities and attractions with its numerous museums, Wild Life Park and Bird Park and its treasures of art. If you like to play golf, you can choose one of the many golf courses in the Monastery Corner e.g. the Feng-Shui-Golf course in Fürstenzell or Europe’s biggest Golf resort in Haarbach. Bavarian Golf and Thermal Spa region: Bad Füssing and Bad Griesbach

Bad Füssing and Bad Griesbach: Two spas at a high level! One of them is located in the “Pockinger Heide”, the other thrones on the hills of the “Rottal” like a modern castle. First known for their hot and healing springs, Bad Füssing and Bad Griesbach developed to famous spas thanks to trend-setting offers. Bad Füssing is Europe’s leading spa and Bad Griesbach is known as a center of golf and holistic wellness. Together they stand for health and well-being. In Bad Füssing there are three modern spas. Together with the “Kurorchester”, spa gardens, casino and “Thermengolf Bad Füssing – Kirchham” they form a round and harmonious offer. Bad Griesbach attracts with Europe’s biggest golf resort and one of the biggest Nordic-Walking-Centers in Germany.


The “Vorwald” consist of the five communities Aicha vorm Wald, Büchlberg, Eging am See, Hauzenberg and Tiefenbach. Good air, a lot of forest and a lot more granite – those are the characteristics of the “Vorwald”. Surrounding Hauzenberg and Büchlberg, the granite “reigns”. The "Eternal Stone" of the Bavarian Forest shaped the landscape and the people and wrote history. If you are interested in the history of the granite, you can get a lot of interesting information in the “Granitzentrum and Granitmuseum Bayerischer Wald” in Hauzenberg. Other Attractions in the region “Vorwald” are the authentic western town “Pullman City” in Eging, the hiking path “Goldsteig”, which runs through the area and one of the biggest swimming lakes in the Bavarian Forest.


LINZ CHANGES - this is the city’s slogan and as a visitor you should be willing to embrace change as well. Linz offers you a lot of possibilities to individually arrange your stay. A sightseeing tour on foot or with the slow train, a tour through the Botanical Garden, a visit in one of the many museums or a ride to the top of the “Pöstlingberg” with the “Grottenbahn” and the zoo show you the most beautiful sides of the city.

· River Boat Trip on the Danube
Linz – Europe’s Culture City 2009 can easily be reached by boat from Passau. You can return to Passau by bus or by train. Combination tickets can be bought from the shipping company “Donauschiffahrt Wurm+Köck”.

The Linzer street „Landstraße“ is one of the most frequented shopping streets in Austria.

· Museums and Exhibitions

Discover the variety of Upper Austria’s capital in its museums and exhibitions, e.g. “Ars Electronica Center”, “LENTOS” art museum, “Noridico” city museum, “Schlossmuseum Linz” and the “Stadtgalerie”.

If you spend your holidays in the region Passauer Land, you should definitely also visit the Czech Republic and Upper Austria. On trips to the two neighbouring countries you will discover glorious cities, ancient culture and fabulous food. You can travel individually by car or by bus with a tour guide. Linz and Salzburg in Austria are just as close to Passau as Krumau and Budweis in the Czech Republic.

The baroque city Schärding and the Stift Reichersberg, which are located in he Austrian region “Innviertel”, attract many visitors.

We especially recommend you to visit the historical city Krumau in the Czech Republic. High above the city thrones the castle.
